Cannabis Cafe Dampkring
Beautifully decorated, the Dampkring is a very pleasant place for a smoke and a drink. They have a wide selection of good quality hashish and weed, and the service is friendly and helpful. Loose joints, pure or with tobacco, are sold at reasonable prices, and house bongs/pipes are available for use. The Dampkring serves alcohol as well as coffee, teas, and fresh juices.

Paradox
Bohemian hang out for artists and "all the freaky people that make the beauty of the world"(*), the Paradox is a well established coffeeshop serving both tourists and a regular local clientele. Spacey decor and friendly people help make this one of the top coffeeshops in Amsterdam. Freshly made fruit/veg juices and yogurt shakes from 2.30€, sandwiches and rolls from 3.00€, uitsmijters (fried eggs, ham, and cheese) 3.90€, soups 3.65€, and veggi burger and salad 4.10€. Although the Paradox is open until 8pm, the kitchen closes at 4pm.

De Rokerij
Decorated in a style based upon Hindu and Nepali art work, candle lit, and perfumed with incense, hashish, and marijuana, this is the largest of the Rokerij coffeeshop chain. The Rokerij coffeeshops sell a good selection of weed between 6.50€ and 8.50€ per gram, with some special varieties costing up to 12.50€ per gram. They have a limited hashish menu, the top end of which costs around 11.00€ to 15.00€ per gram for high quality Moroccan and Himalayan products. This Rokerij is large, often full in the late afternoon/evening, and serves alcohol. Check out the cocktail menu which is quite extensive, with drinks costing between 3.50€ and 4.50€. They even have their own "energy drink" for 3.00€.

Grey Area
Great coffeshop. The Grey Area is run by two US 'Stoner-Operators' who have specialized in high-test Weed from selected local producers for the last few years. They are big into speciality weeds and smoking equipment. You also get a lot of touring musicians and celebs stopping in here, from cannabis guru Ed Rosenthal to rapper Flavor Flav. Top spot .

Tweede Kamer
The Tweede Kamer coffeeshop looks like a traditional Amsterdam Brown bar from the outside, and is situated on a small side street just off the Spui. It is owned by the same people who later started up the Cannabis Cafe Dampkring on the other side of the Spui, and sells the same high quality products.

Bush Docter Coffeeshop
The Bush Docter is split into 3 levels and a terrace, with most of the seating on the 2nd and 3rd floors. It seems very small when you go in but its worth a visit, and the weed menu is quite interesting. Most of the Dutch weed here costs between 14.00€ and 16.50€ per 2 gram deal, and is divided into two sections, Indica and Sativa with no bio/hydro divide. They also have a range of Ice-olated Hash (usually made from Nederwiet) costing between 18.50€ and 25.00€. Loose joints are available, but no pure ones.

Kashmir Lounge
Beautifully decorated in keeping with it's name, the Kashmir Lounge is situated in a residential area between the Kinkerstraat (good cheap shopping here folks!), and the Vondel Park (good place to chill out after the coffeeshop). Tram 17 runs up the Kinkerstraat from Central Station. The smokes menu is made up mostly from hash, although some good Dutch weed is represented, with prices varying between 3.10€/gram and 9.10€/gram.

Grasshopper 1
Unlike their other premesis on the Oudebrugsteeg, this Grasshopper does not sell alcohol, which probably explains the difference in atmosphere between the two. This Grasshopper is by far the more laid back of the pair, and feels like a proper coffee shop rather than a hangover waiting to happen. Drinks cost between 2.00€ and 4.00€, and munchies between 1.50€ and 2.50€. They have a reasonable selection of Dutch Grass and imported hash. A covered sun terrace, seats on the street, or cosy corners in the cafe itself provide all weather seating.

The Bulldog Coffeeshop nr. 90
Part of the Bulldog chain of bars and coffeeshops, supplying hash, weed, munchies, teas, coffees, and soft drinks,etc.. Canal-side location in the heart of the Amsterdam Red Light. Internet access, and videotheek lounge. Open since 1975; first coffeeshop in Amsterdam.

Chocolata Coffeeshop
Open since 1986, Chocolata have developed a reputation here in town for very nice Cannabis confectionery. Bonbons cost 1.80€ each, chocolate or vanilla hash cake costs 3.50€/slice, hash hot chocolat 3.50€/glass, and weed tea 3.00€/glass. They also serve plenty of THC free drinks and munchies. Interesting selection of hash and weed from around 6.00€/gram to 12.00€/gram.

Dutch Cannabis Law
International law means that the Netherlands cannot make cannabis legal and so this complicates the situation. Cannabis consumption is therefore viewed as decriminilised rather than legalised as technically it is illegal in Holland. Personal possession of a small quantity (under 30g) of cannabis is allowed.
Coffeeshops are allowed to sell small amounts of cannabis and are strictly regulated and taxed. Coffeeshops must not sell to anyone under the age of 18, they must not sell more than 5g to any customer and they must not hold more than 500g on the premises. Also hard drugs are strictly forbidden.
